It has been said that God has no favorites – that He loves everyone the same and gives no special treatment to anyone inside the kingdom. While in one respect that is true, God indeed does love everyone – “I perceive that God shows no partiality,” Acts 10:34; it is also true that God does not treat everyone the same or with equality. God most definitely favors a certain group of people.
Before you get upset, thinking God to be unfair, let us look a little closer to those whom God shines His face upon: “He (ANYONE) who is humble and of a broken or wounded spirit, and who trembles at My word and reveres My commands.” (emphasis added) ANYONE who respects God’s authority, who trembles in reverential fear and awe when God speaks, and who humbles himself and bends his will to submit to God’s will has God’s delight and His favor upon their lives.
Friends, God indeed is “no respecter of persons”. He is the originator of equal opportunity. He gives EVERYONE the same chance at becoming one of His favorite people. However, God’s favor is not an automatic dispensation. His word is expressively clear that, while God LOVES everyone, His FAVOR is only bestowed upon those willing to humbly submit to His authority in their lives. How about you? Do you tremble with respect and wonder at the Word of the Lord? Do you reverence His commands? Are your submitting your will and allowing yourself to be broken before Him? If so, you can rest assured that His favor is shining upon your life!
