And so it began! “Black Friday” officially ushered in the ‘season’. Shoppers running around trying (and succeeding) to find the best deals for their holiday budgets, exercising their right to give fantastic gifts to the ones they love. The past couple of seasons have shown a dramatic shift in thinking by retailers nationwide. No longer is the season about love, joy, peace on earth, and family. It is now about the bottom line in profits and sales and colloquialisms meant to “un-offend” the general population. However, no matter how retailers in our nation try to change the holidays…..the fact remains THIS season is about the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Think about it for a moment. God loved His creation so much that He chose to take on human form, live among us, and die for our sins. Then, He rose from the dead that we may know salvation and live! This season is all about His coming in to the world that we may live – really live!
My friends, this is something to celebrate. Jesus’ ‘birthday’ is a big deal and should hold significant meaning in our lives. After all, we celebrate everyone else’s birthday that we love; why should our savior deserve anything less than the same? So, in the middle of the hustle and bustle and all the excitement of ‘holiday hunting’, don’t forget to celebrate, enjoy, and really live during this season. It is, after all, the time we choose to celebrate the birthday of our Redeemer!
