“The pride of your heart has deceived you..” – Obadiah 1:3

On the one hand, gaining a lot of information and growing in knowledge is very beneficial. As a matter of fact, the Bible says, “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning.” – Proverbs 1:5. However, if one is not careful to keep himself humble in the presence of God, the knowledge that is designed to bring life will eventually bring death.

Pride is a tricky thing that can sneak up on us before we even know what has happened. Slowly, little by little, pride creeps up on those whom it cunningly stalks. It never pounces and attacks in an aggressive manner. On the contrary! It sneaks in close ever so softly, squeezing ever so gently until its grip is nearly unbreakable and the life of its victim is snuffed out.

Friends, the Bible says that God resists the proud (James 4:6). As a matter of fact, some translations say that God “opposes” the proud. Those who are arrogant and self-inflated will face much opposition in their lives – not from Satan, but from God. God does not allow the proud to function without hardship and friction. The Bibles says, “Above all else, guard your heart.” – Proverbs 4:23. Pride can get the very best of any of us. After all, pride is what ensnared Lucifer. Check yourselves and ask God to show you any area where pride has begun to wrap its life restricting force around you. Cooperate with the Holy Spirit to break a prideful spirit in your life before it’s too late. Pride will bring you down if you do not stop it before it gets a full grip on you.
