“Do all things without complaining and disputing….” – Philippians 2:14

I do not believe there is anything more frustrating than being around someone who belly aches all the time! Grumbling, complaining, bad attitude……being around someone who has nothing positive to say is the ultimate downer of all downers. God thinks so too!

I am reminded, this morning, of the story of the children of Israel who were bitten by fiery serpents in the wilderness when they opened their mouths to complain! (See numbers chapter 21) God was so fed up with their negativity and grumbling that He sent the serpents amongst them to devour them. Yes! You heard me correctly. God was so fed up with the bad attitudes that He decided to kill those who were complaining. I don’t know about you, but I can relate to those feelings of frustration. There is not many things worse than being in the presence of a grumbler.

Friends, throughout the word of God we are reminded to think positive, speak positive, and believe positive. Negativity is like a cancer that destroys from the inside out. Unlike cancer, however, negativity is contagious. Ultimately, negativity can overtake all who are exposed to it unless it is recognized right away and gotten rid of without hesitation. That is why the admonition comes so often to avoid complaining and grumbling. You need to take heed to watch your attitude and your words. Even if you are frustrated over something, take a deep breath and refocus. Keeping yourself positive will move the heart of God and instead of spending “forty years” on an “eleven day” journey, you will complete your task right on time! AND you just might keep yourself from the fiery “serpent”.
