“For whatever does not originate and proceed from faith is sin [whatever is done without a conviction of its approval by God is sinful].” – Romans 14:23 – Amplified

I want to pose a question to you today. Are you living a life that is guided by fear?

Unfortunately, many people live lives guided by fear every single day of their lives – a fear that God is mad at them. So many people have been raised in such legalistic environments, or have heard aggressively condemning messages that aren’t balanced with God’s grace, that they now believe they have to watch every single little move they make all day long for fear that they are inevitably going to do something more to upset God. The sad thing is, that very fear itself, and the fact that that fear is motivating and controlling their lives, is what is upsetting God and what He counts as sin – not necessarily the things they are doing, but the fact they are doing them in fear (see Romans 14:23 in its entirety and in its context). Maybe you are one of them.

Friends, God wants you to know the freedom that comes with a true and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. When you enter that relationship with Him, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you and guides you into all things. As you learn to listen to Him and be led by Him – in everything – you can let go of fear and live by faith. Instead of wondering if you are displeasing God all the time, you can have a confidence in the fact that you love Him and are truly doing your best to please Him. Does that mean you won’t make mistakes or ever do anything wrong again? NO! But it does mean that you are learning to walk in freedom to do what is right based on the leading of the Holy Spirit and that when you make mistakes you will quickly repent and go on. There is no freedom like that freedom and THAT is the life of faith that truly pleases God.
